Now, the fatty acids’ use in high-producing dairy cows’ diet is a widespread practice to meet these animals’ great energy demand.

In fact, a negative energy balance in the diet drastically reduces milk production and causes declines in reproductive performance and metabolic disorders. In particular, the rumen-protected fatty acids’ administration allows to act directly on the intestinal level, increasing diet’s nutritional value, without interfering with the rumen microflora’s functionality.

The ideal fat’s source for a ruminant should show high digestibility in the intestine, limited rumen alteration, the right fatty acids’ balance for the various metabolic functions, minimizing the negative effect on the dry matter’s ingestion.

In this sense, GRANDA DRY FAT SOLUTION by GRANDA TEAM uses a technology based on fractionated palm fat (Palmit 80 ®).

PALMIT 80 is a highly purified palmitic acid’s vegetable source, non-GMO, with approximately oleic acid’s 12% and a low stearic acid (4%) presence. It has an extremely high energy content, moreover, it is resistant to oxidation and deterioration. The high melting point (58°C) allows it to bypass the rumen and be absorbed directly in the intestine.

Palmit 80 fully meets the needs of those who want to maintain high productivity and high fat’s levels in the milk, even in heat stress’ conditions. Furthermore, thanks to its high palmitic acid content (C-16 > 80%) it reduces the ketosis’ risk and a negative energy balance in postpartum phase.

According to numerous American studies, PALMIT 80 increases milk production by 8-20% and milk fat content by 4-10%, thanks above all to a targeted action directly on the mammary gland (Rico et al., 2013). Furthermore, PALMIT 80’s use allows for improvements in cow’s fertility and reproductive performance, has beneficial effects on cow’s health and increases the animal’s productive career.

Among the three rumen-protected fatty acids’ main sources currently on the market, PALMIT 80 appears to be the most promising for the dairy cow market. Thanks to the higher highly digestible palmitic acid’s concentration (72%, against 51% of stearic acid), and to an energy intake 20% higher than calcium soaps, PALMIT 80 is used in the most critical phases of the animal’s production cycle. Also in summer PALMIT 80 has not shown to have negative effects either on the feed’s palatability, or on the ruminal metabolism avoiding polyunsaturated fatty acids’ formation (PUFA).
